GENERAL MEETING

RE: MINUTES OF THE STUDENT GENERAL MEETING HELD ON 20/07/2011 AT MLT 5


ATTENDANCE
The list of students who attended the meeting ( general) meeting is attached in this paper at the back pages. The chairperson of the meeting was Rwezaula Robert, Prime Minister.

The chairperson (PM) opened the meeting officially at 10:00 Am where he emphasized the strong participation in the meeting.

1. GRADING SYSTEMS ( GPA)
The students government conveyed a message to all students that, the issue of grading system will be solved after presetting a paper to the coming senate which is the only body to change the system of grading.

2. RESULTS SYSTEM
The management said, results is not a technical problem but it is a human error. Therefore the coming results will be calculated manually to identify the sources of the problems . Teachers may be also the problem /source.

3. STUDENT ACCOUNT
It is in final status (processes ),this is according to student government. And at the commencement of the 2011/20/2 academic year it will be in use.

4. CONTINUATIONS REVIEW.
The SOSJUT said, their counterparts in Dodoma campuses agreed each other to make a constitutional review, a day was proposed.

2. UNIVERSITY ALMANAC
All students agreed that the almanac in St. Mark is not followed because of the poor system of administration and the problems prevailing in the centre.

3. GENERATORS
All students claimed of the management to delay buying a generator to supremacy the electric shortage during night studies. Students noticed the weakness of St.Mark Administration to address the issue of power supply. SOSJUT said main campus will help st.mark to have a generator when the disputes have been solved.

4. HESLB FUNDS PROCESSING
The management of St.John University of Tanzania main campus said, they will only allow st.mark to process loans of student only if the problems of st.mark have been solved. Also there are no professional bursars for the time being, it said.



5. OTHER BUSINESS
i. Student were asked to follow the student handbook and code of conducts –clothes
ii. SOSJUT said weekend days should be respected for worship and not for classes
iii. Students advised the management to fence the campus.
iv. Students demanded to be provided with permanent (smart identity cards).
v. Students demanded to have representative in Senate meeting.
vi. Claimed week of hostels for both en and women
vii. SOSJUT asked cooperation from students for success
viii. SOSJUT committed to find others hostel for its students
ix. Management was asked to create an impressive car parking for staffs and the students
x. Students claimed of not given enough time for preparation before UE.
xi. Shortage of prospectus
xii. Students wanted the stationery services in the library to be removed.
xiii. Course outline are not available in St.Mmark’s Centre.
xiv. Lack of cooperation from the Dean Of Students
xv. Arthur Haule should be left free to study and prepare himself for exams (final exams
xvi. Demanded establishment of quantity assurance

The meeting was over around 03:00pm and the Chair Person (PM) of the meeting advised the students to go and study hard preparing for UE.
